    Posted Jan 24, 2013 10:17 AM

I am Aruba newbie with newbie questions.  Have new instant network of 13 IAP-105's and have newbie questions on output from show APs command for my network.

    1)  Why are all AP's but one showing Mesh Role = Portal except one showing Mesh Role = Point?

    2)  Why are power settings for 5ghz radio power so low (9dB) for so many APs?

    3)  Why is Config From Port = Bond0 for some and Config From Port = None for others?

    1) just guessing here, could it be the Point one is the virtual controller?

    2) might be that 9dB is just enough?

    3) not a clue

in general might there a something in the IAP admin guide?

    1)  Why are all AP's but one showing Mesh Role = Portal except one showing Mesh Role = Point?

The IAP with the valid uplink connection is the mesh portal. The mesh portal may also act as a Virtual Controller. The unwired

         IAPs are mesh points.

    2)  Why are power settings for 5ghz radio power so low (9dB) for so many APs?

This is taken care by ARM , Adaptive Radio Management dynamically and intelligently choosing the best 802.11 channel and transmit power for

each Aruba AP in its current RF environment.

Thank you.  The mystery is how did my instant AP-105 network think there was any "mesh" going on.

Since posting this question I had a problem yesterday where my Instant network of fourteen IAP-105s kept rebooting itself.  Way scary.  I called tech support and the engineer saw the last AP attempting to boot was the same AP listed as "point" above.  He suggested I reset it, but I found it easier to replace.

Now when I show APs I show mesh role  = portal and from port  = none.

Instant AP(dual radio) will bring up as mesh point if the eth0 is down, but this ap should be sync configuration from the Cluster before.

I recall that when I was testing my first two IAP-105s, I questioned based on the Instant User Guide whether they should support uplink.  I could not find an "eth1" port on the back and so tried enabling uplink on the AP and using the "console" port for the uplink.

Of course it didn't work and my VAR Aruba SE responded to my question that the AP-105 does not support uplink and that the Instant User Guide does not make that excruciatingly explicit and clear.  APs with two ethernet ports are labeled "eth0" and "eth1".

IAP-105 has two ports labeled "console" and "enet"

I wonder if I had mistakently left uplink enabled on that AP if it would have showed as "point" and what other side effects that might have caused.

The AP I would have done this with WAS the AP I just replaced when I had the network rebooting incident.

Also, I would like answer on the "from port" = "bond0".  What does this mean?

After replacing that AP, all show "mesh role" = "portal" and "from port" = "none".

All fourteen of these APs are connected to switch on same layer 2 subnet and VLAN.
