    Hi,

I have an issue that for the guest WLAN captive portal is not popping up when the user is connected to guest WLAN.

I have used the WLAN type as guest, and the authentication as internal. Created the username and password in the internal DB. But it doesn’t work.

Request someone to please assist here.

    Syed Inamdar,

What steps did you use to create the Captive Portal?

    Hi Joseph,

below are the steps. in Powerconnet W-650

configuration- WLAN -selct guestWLAN - next

    tunnel mode next

    selcted vlan next

    type as guest

Captive portal with authentication via credentials(username and password) provided by user.

    enable captive portal

Ordered list of Authentication servers: internal

    finish

    then security - authentication

server - internal DB- add users- apply.

Does the user get an ip address?

    Can the user resolve DNS?

Yes, user is getting the IP address in that perticular VLAN.

Can the user resolve DNS?  Can they do an nslookup?  This is key to opening the Captive Portal.

    Hi Joseph,

i have pointed the DNS to global DNS of 4.4.4.1 in DHCP pool creation tab.

when i connect over the guest WLAN and ping www.google.com it doesn't resolve and doesn't PING.

    guess this helps?

or let me know if you need more information.

    • What is doing DHCP for that VLAN? the controller? (does the controller itself able to ping the internet? if no - please config ip-route = gw)

    • Does this VLAN gw is the controller or another eqtuiement on another vlan? (if so - you should enable src-nat in the vlan itself)

    Hi Joseph,

sorry to bring this point now to your notice that this is the lab set up i am in right now before get onto live network.

for guest users , controller is serving as DHCP. and for the guest VLAN the default gateway is same as the gateway set at controller.

I am sorry for my previous reply "ping to www.google.com" is not working. the controller is not in network yet.

I am under impression that, once i connect to guest WLAN, i should get an IP address in guest WLAN that is happening, able to connect guest WLAN without any authentication. then when i connect to google.com it should prompt me for captive portal and credentials for authentication that will get authorized from internal DB that we created. then it should disply the page cannot be displayed error. right?

but for me captive portal itself doesn't pop up, do i need to have internet connection for this to work? how can i test it in lab environment?

You'll also need to be sure to have an IP address on the Guest VLAN on the controller.
