If you are seeing the "Nightly Maintenance failed" message on the Home > Overview page and you are on version 7.0.7, you may have encountered a known defect. (As a side effect of this VisualRF fails to come up.)
As a first step, please send us the nightly_maintenance log file. You can find this in the /var/log directory from the AMP command line, or on the System > Status page (near the bottom) on the AMP web GUI.
NOTE: If you are NOT on version 7.0.7, please contact Support and let us know. You are likely experiencing an unrelated problem that we will need to address. The log file will still be helpful in either case.
Check to see if Nightly Maintenance is still running. From the AMP command line run the following commands:
# psg night
# psg maint
# psg backup
If the output from any of these commands shows a process is running, please contact Support. DO NOT CONTINUE.
The best way to resolve this problem is to upgrade to v7.0.8 (or appropriate latest version). If you are seeing a DISABLED message on the AMP command line you can clear this by running the following command:
# amp_enable -now
If upgrading is not an appropriate option for you at this time, we have a patch for the Nightly Maintenance failure (attached). If you feel comfortable applying the patch from the AMP command line, the instructions to do so are below. If not, please let us know and we will gladly assist you with the process.
If you do not feel comfortable applying the patch, or if you encounter difficulties doing so, here are a couple of simple steps that should resolve the immediate problem of Nightly Maintenance failing:
On the AMP command line enter the following commands:
# ra
You should see something like this:
Stopping httpd: [ OK ]
Starting httpd: [ OK ]
[root@airwave mercury]#
If you are still seeing a DISABLED message, or if you're not seeing that the process started OK, please let us know.
APPLYING THE PATCH
Using WinSCP or a similar file transfer utility copy the attached patch file backup_sym_links_AMP_707.patch to the following directory on your AMP:
/var/airwave/custom/
On the AMP command line execute the following commands…
# root (alias: cd /root/svn/mercury)
# patch -p0 < /var/airwave/custom/backup_sym_links_AMP_707.patch
# make
The make should take a couple minutes after which the AMP processes will be restarted. Tail the service watcher log to see when they come back up:
# tll service_watcher
Ctrl-C to end the tail session when the processes come up. Check the AMP web GUI to see that all is well.
If the make is not successful the first time --if it ends with errors-- first try running it again --often it will succeed when you run it a second time. If it doesn't succeed the second time, please let us know.
Please let us know if the Nightly Maintenance failed message does not go away after the next scheduled nightly maintenance. Also, if you were having problems with VisualRF coming up, please let us know if that is still a problem after completing the patch process.
