Can I manage SNMP on an HP ProCurve 1800-8G switch?

Product and Software: This article applies to all ECS product and software versions.

You cannot manage SNMP on an HP PC 1800-8G switch.

HP does not support read/write manageability on the HP ProCurve 1800-8G switch. You also cannot specify SNMP traps or the SNMP version. (You can enable SNMP and enter the RO community string.)

To be able to manage SNMP, use to a switch that is supported by Aruba Networks.

Does this apply to all HP Procurve Switches?  My customer is using the HP Procurve 2610 and I can't get these devices to come up in Airwave.  I get an SNMP Failed error with the Down Status.

Hi Craig,

Airwave supports monitoring for HP Procurve switch. The Supported Infrastructure Devices can be downloaded from here.

If the device is not showing up on Airwave, we can check a few things.

1: Make sure that the same SNMP string is configured on both sides.

2: Make sure that port 161 is allowed over the firewall as SNMP communication takes place over 161.

3: We can do a SNMP poll from CLI . Run the below command from CLI.

      # s2w <IP_of_Switch> <SNMP_Community_String> .1

if we get a response back and the device is marked down on Airwave, I suggest to send the request support and involve TAC to analyse the issue.
