We are bringing 16 external APs online in the very near future on one of our campuses. I want to build an accurate map in VisualRF of the site so we can see accurate clients, heat maps, etc. Is there any documentation or best practices in setting up an exterior location? This location will have 13 buildings in the map, or at least that is how I would like to configure it.

I appreciate the links but that is not what I am looking for.
We have already chosen the locations of the APs, now I would like to create
a "floorplan" in VisualRF in Airwave. Airwave doesn't offer anything native
for exterior in this scenario, at least from what I can tell, to create a
visual map of a campus. Something that will have buildings in it. Half of
the new APs will be in a courtyard setting supplying coverage between
buildings and some will be on the perimeter supplying coverage to the
parking lots. This is not a mesh configuration.

I wanted to create an exterior map of the location that shows the
attenuation that the buildings will do to the signal strength but I seem to
be striking out. I have all the individual buildings already configured in
VisualRF and some have up to 4 floors.

You can load Picture of Outdoor Site or atleast Google map screenshot in VisualRF. Draw walls as required. If you have complex stuctures (like outpost or something) then create some custom walls(in Setup Page) with attenuation value that an outpost can cause and add it in VisualRF for better heatmap.

If I'm reading and understanding this correctly, this sounds like a feature request.

 

You want a view in VRF that has the external plan at the level where you see all the buildings.

 

We currently don't have that, but what some customers have done is add a building called 'outdoor', and added a floor plan into it.  There is a limitation on size (it used to be a limitation of 2 mile by 2 mile, but that might have changed - I wasn't able to find the code bit on max sizing) - when they hit the sizing limit, they'd splice the map to different floors to fit.  It won't show proper bleedthrough for the building wifi that overlap with outdoor wifi.  But can help give general idea.
