I am very new to this enviroment and I am starting to get my feet wet in the managment side and I have a few questions.I have 30 IAP-305s and we need better managment so I am exploring Airwave.

I want to intall the Airwave software on a server we already have and just need to understand whats required.

    1. How long are the Airwave Licences valid?

    2. Where do I find the software?

    3. Is there seperate licences for the IAPs and the server that runs Airwave?

Any calrity from someone who has set a system up from scratch would be appreicated.

    Hello,

please find the answers to your questions:

    1. How long are the Airwave Licences valid?

Fayyaz: once you install the software, you will get like around 60-90 days of grace period to apply the licenses. You could purchase the permanent license by contacting your contact at Aruba.

    2. Where do I find the software?

Fayyaz:  You can find the Aruba Airwave software on support.arubanetworks.com, select software and select Airwave to download the software, 8.2.9.x train is the latest version.

    3. Is there seperate licences for the IAPs and the server that runs Airwave?

Fayyaz: You could just purchase AP licenses, they will work for all controller's, controller based - ap's and IAP's too. basically it is per device that is being monitored is considered as 1 AP license.  Since, you have 30 Devices, you can purchase them accordingly or you could also purchase extra by keeping your future expansion in mind too.  There is no seperate license for Airwave server alone.

    hope this helps.

    Hi Fayyaz,

One more question about this, how many devices are supported by the 90 days of grace period license?

    Regards,

    Julián

There is no limit on the device count for evaluation license.

One probably really simple additional question:- When  restoring from a backup does the restore process also assign/change the server IP address?

We've got an old server running 8.2.10.1 in preparation for the upgrade that we are pensioning off and replacing with a new box. I'm thinking the upgrade procedure would be of the form:-

1). Upgrade existing server to 8.2.10.1 (done)
2). Save licenses for use later on (done)
3). Backup existing server config and data and export
4). Fresh install of 8.2.10.1 on new server including Version of Centos 7

4a). Use Aruba ISO with Centos and Airwave
5). Restore backup on new server
6). Install new cert on new server (current expires 28 Aug 2020)
    7). Shutdown old server

8). Assign (old)  IP to new server
9). Restore licenses to new server

Backup restore will not change server IP, we have to manually change IP.
