    Hi all,

Does anyone know if there is a way (or if it's possible) for Airwave to name switches automatically from DHCP during the zero touch process?

We have set reservations for the devices in readiness (with our own naming convention) but the device aren't getting updated from the default name, and we're not sure if this is possible or not.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

what devices are these, we have no way of auto renaming the devices before they are added, but we can schedule a config job to update the names of the devices, at a scheduled time, on Airwave.

Thanks for your reply. We are currently working with 2930M switches as a test. We'd be happy to schedule a config job once the devices are in Airwave, but is there a way to do this in bulk? - like from a CSV file or something similar.

We are going to be importing a large amount of devices and would like to rename them to our naming standard. We have successfully set up Zero Touch, which is great; but the names are all set to the default when the import is complete. If there is a way to rename them all at once with a schedule or during the import, it would be a great time saver. Otherwise we will need to rename all our devices individually.

We've now achieved this using a whitelist method, which seems to work well for our 2930M switches but not for our IAP (Instant Access Points) - they do come in originally with the name specificed on the whitelist, but then they revert back to the MAC addresses as the name once configured via instant config.

The whitelist using CSV works for variables on Templates. Are you using IGC for IAP's? If so, the IGC takes control of the config and the variables are not present on IGC.

Ye we tried that and it did as you said, because we're using IGC. Might be worth us setting up with templates initially so we can use the whitelist for the names etc.

For anyone interested we have come up with a method that seems to work for both switches and IAPs. We brought the switches in via a whitelist and that works well, but with the APs we had to bring them in using the whitelist method, but into a group that uses templates rather than the instant config. Once they have come into that group and work with the template, moving them into the group with the instant config, keeps the name information and any other variables set. Saving a lot of time re-naming. We also got it to set zones etc. using variables. Worth a go if you're bringing in a lot of devices and need to set things on mass.
