Please check this Airheads post, and the Switch Management and Configuration Guide. That guide (I checked the 16.04 version for the 2930F, but newer versions and for other switches should have the same information) has a description on LLDP-MAD and VLAN-MAD, and one of the differences is that LLDP-MAD is easy to setup, and only works for 2-node VSF stacks, while VLAN-MAD supports more nodes but has some more constraints.
