Limit Aruba Access Point Signal Strength using Aruba 7210 WLC & Airwave

Hi Guys,

We have Aruba WLC 7210 and Aruba Airwave (for monitoring) in our network environment. We observed that some wireless access points have been spitting out wireless signal strength outside the campus too.

Is there a way in Aruba WLC or Airwave, to limit the signal cutoff strength so that the access points will broadcast its signal strength only within the campus? Any commands or GUI controls will be helpful.

Apologies, if the post is in wrong blog.

Thank you,

Bharani..

Bahrani,

if you are using OMNI-Directional antenna you can reduce the power but it may not be a good solution as cappali said you may have a poor performance with your clients so consider relocation the access point in a place where you will be fine and your RF energy not wasted out and also if you are using access point that support external antennas you may use a direction antenna to concentrate the RF beam in the needed direction but for sure you need to review your RF design and check if using such antenna will be good or bad.

Usually in wireless this is one of the things you have to deal with. You could potentially reduce the power of your perimeter APs, but this may impact your clients and is also a manual process.
