    Hi ,

Our end customer is having cluster set up of CPPM which is running at 5.2 version. ( Publisher and Subscriber )

Presently the end customer wants to migrate the subcriber from 5.2 to 6.2.

So wanna know how to do that , following are the my queries.

    1. Publisher will be on 5.2 version so if i add new VM which will be running on 6.2 version as a subscriber will all the configuration will be reflected on 6.2 ?

    2. Whether i can take the backup from subscriber which running on 5.2 version and then putting that backup file on 6.2 and then adding the 6.2 as subscriber whether it will work ?

    3. Have to do the configuration from scratch ?

Kindly suggest me how can i do the migration.

    Regards,

    Nithin Kumar C V

In a cluster you cannot run two different versions. You will have to either break the cluster and run them separately or upgrade both servers.

    From the release notes

    http://support.arubanetworks.com/DOCUMENTATION/tabid/77/DMXModule/512/Command/Core_Download/Default.aspx?EntryId=11620

Upgrading to ClearPass Policy Manager 6.2.0
You can upgrade to ClearPass Policy Manager 6.2.0 from ClearPass Policy Manager 5.2.0 (non-VM), 6.0.x, or
    6.1.x.

 Upgrade images for upgrading from 6.0.x and 6.1.x are available on the Software Updates Portal at
Administration > Agents and Software Updates > Software Updates.

 For appliance upgrades from 5.2.0, the upgrade image is available on the Support site.

 Direct upgrades from versions prior to CPPM 5.2.0 are not supported. Customers with earlier versions of
5.x must upgrade to either ClearPass Policy Manager 5.2.0 or 6.x first before upgrading to 6.2.

 Direct upgrades from CPPM 5.2.0 VM are not supported. Customers must install the 6.2.x VM version
and then migrate their data to this new version.

In our case publisher is appliance and subscriber is VM.

We have created another VM which is running on 6.2 so can i upload the configuration back up from appliance which is publisher running on 5.2 and putting this VM into production and then taking the migration of OS on appliance offline so that it will not effect the production network.

Just make sure you also back up your certs to keep a backup.

You will need to work with TAC to migrate any lic.

When you restore make sure you go in and double check your settings after migration. You will need to re-enable insight.

We got the confirmation from TAC that license has been tranferred from 5.2 to 6.2 and they sent the cerfication Ids also.

Its a cluster set up so all the configuration will be same on both publisher and subscriber.

So have to take the backup of configuration  from publisher rite ?

    One more clarification.

now the Host name, IP address  for new VM is different .

How much it will effect if i install the backup file on new VM.

The backup will restore everything except ip and host name. Its been awhile since I've done a 5.2 migration but I don't think it will restore the certificate also. You will need to also add that afterwards. make sure you have the password
