Hello, 

We have a seminar with up to 450 guests expected.

We have a guest WLAN with captive portal (not clearpass) and we would like to create one (or mininal) guest login account for all the guests.

Is it possible to have up to 450 guests sharing the same account (or perhaps something like up to 10 guest accounts)?

Would ther be any impacts on perfomance with several guests on one account? 

We have on several occasions had around 5 guests sharing a guest account without any problems.

The idea for using one guest logon account is to minimize administration of distributing guest accounts. We do not have our ClearPass setup in place, where I understand that it is easier to manage many guest users.

 

I was wondering if there could be a perfomance (or any other negative) impact with 450 guest sharing the same account?

I need to check that we have not applied a limit on the bandwith usage for guest users, I do not rememebr exactly where this limit setting is?

No. There should be no performance issues related to using one guest account in the internal database.

Bandwidth contracts are generally tied to the final user-role for your guests.

Do you know if in the same setup (WLC only and no ClearPass), it's possible to allow several guest to share the same guest account but with the possibility to limit the amount of people connected concurrently. For example the objective is to have one generic account but with a maximum of 50 people concurently connected? We don't want to have more than 50 users using the same account.

That's an advanced guest account management feature that would require a
guest solution like ClearPass.
