different signal strength for SSIDs from same AP

    Hi, 

    I have a couple of quesitons.

    In a campus network where you have different ssids broadcasted from APs why is that some ssid show higher signal stregths compared to other and it keeps changing? 

     

    We have a mix of 2.4 & 5 Ghz like normal campus wifi. The SNR threshold is set to 25 which sometime causes performance issues. What is the best threshold level and safest to support voip and video.

    Do you have different data rates assigned on each SSID ?

    No, I don't have data rates assigned. SO it should be same for all.

    When you say SNR threshold, which parameter do you mean?  If it is the local probe request threshold in the SSID profile http://www.arubanetworks.com/techdocs/ArubaOS_64_Web_Help/Web_Help_Index.htm#ArubaFrameStyles/VirtualAPs/SSID_Profiles.htm?Highlight=threshold please change that to zero to disable it if you are having problems.

    Depending on the application used to measure signal strength you will discover that there are anomalies depending on how the application scans and what frames it uses to report signal strengths.  The most reliable is probably a packet capture tool fixed to the channel that you are concerned about.
