    I wanted to start a thread for folks who are watching the ClearPass Essentials elearning videos.  If you have a question about a particular modules or slide please post it here and a member of the team will do our best to answer it.

    A good amount of the review questions within the modules seem to be wrong.

    Thanks for the feedback.  Can you tell us which modules and question numbers are wrong?

    Thanks!

    I'll have to go back and figure out exactly which ones.

    Another thing I've noticed, there are sections missing.  Module 17.1 is missing [Video: Web login traffic flow], and [Video: packet walkthrough].  There was something also missing in module 16, but I'll have to go back for that one as well.

    Hi Christopher,

    Module 1, section 1 has the same quiz that is at the end of Module 1, section 2. The overall design of the class seems to have the questions at the end of each Module, not in the middle of a Module like in Module 1.

    Module 6 question 1: I've tried to answer the question in Chrome and in Safari and it will not let me submit the question. There are only two questions on this module, so I'm not able to complete this module.

    There were definitely some issues in the questions in the previous modules. I'll be more diligent about updating this thread if I come across additional issues.

    Additionally, we will receive a workbook with the online class similar to the workbook that was provided with the Mobility Bootcamp class?

    Thanks!

    -Mike

    Mike,

    Thanks so much for the feedback.  I've forwarded it on to our instructional designer.  He may reach out to you to try some different things to try and isolate the problem.

    As for a workbook, you will get one when you attend the Lab portion of the course but not one that contains all the lecture materials.  Due to the style and number of animations/demos used when we looked at printing the modules it didn't work very well.  You can watch the modules as often as you want if you want to take notes.

    Christopher,

    One more thing. The person who is reading the slides is calling TACACS+ - "TAH-CACKS". I've always heard it called "TACK-AX." I was just wondering if you know which pronunciation is right?

    I actually started to laugh the first time I heard the reader - but maybe I've been wrong all along.

    Thanks!

    -Mike

    Interesting.  It's an intialism/acronym and not a word so not sure if there's a true pronunciation.  The developer who did the voiceover grew up in Singapore so it could be a British-English vs American-English difference.

    I've gone through some more sections of the class. Here's my notes on potential errors and issues:

    Module 8.3 - Demo - did not make any sound. I tried hitting the speaker button in the bottom right-hand corner multiple times, to no avail.

    8.3 quiz #2 - Which of the following statements is true?

    1. We can have multiple Enforcement Policies tied to a Policy Service.

    2. We can send multiple enforcement attributes to the Network Access Device.

    3. In case of no match in the Enforcement Policy conditions, a default attribute is sent.

    4. The default Enforcement Profile sent is always a Deny Access Profile.

    Says it's 3, I think it should be 2 - could be wrong

    9.3 - has a totally different template when presented in the browser. You are not able to pause the slides or see the transcript tab, which is unfortunate.

    No quiz at the end of 9.3

    -Mike

    Here's my updated notes on some more modules:

    10.1 - Collectors - DHCP:

    There are a lot of issues where the transcript does not line up with the dialog. Here's an example I found:

    Transcript:

    Here we see a <should be "an"> Aruba controller configured to forward DHCP packets to the <remove the word "the"> ClearPass by addition of the helper address <the word "command" is missing>.

    Someone should really go through this class with a fine-tooth comb and verify the synergy between the two.

    10.2 - Profile Config:

    Demo - no sound. None of the demos have been working in this course.

    Quiz:

    3rd question: What database in the Policy Manager contains the device attributes derived by Profiling?

    Answer: Onboard Devices Repository

    Shouldn't it be the "Endpoints Repository"?

    11 - Advanced Enforcement:

    Slide: Access Tracker Output

    The popup in this slide is poorly formatted; you can see right through it to the slide below and it's hard to read.

    Demo - no sound.

    12 - Building Policy Services

    Policy Service Types slide

    Slide states "Wireless 802.1x." It should be "Wireless 802.1X." This error is also in the transcript notes.

    Slide states "Employee + Wired Switch = Wireless 802.1x policy service" - most likely should be "Wired 802.1x policy service"

    I'm running Firefox, GA, version 22. The demo started up, said I didn't have a supported browser, and then just skipped right to the summary.

    Thanks for the feedback, good points. I'll discuss with the team on making changes to these

    So first off - I truly am getting a lot out of this Clearpass class. This has been one of the best online courses that I've taken in a 12-year networking career. The comments that I'm making about all the slides are simply to help Aruba increase the final polish of the product.

    I'll be able to bust through some more of the modules this afternoon. I'll post additional comments at that time.

    Thanks!

    -Mike

    ==

    Module 14 - Troubleshooting

    Session Details slide

    The pop-up messages are ineligible in this slide.

    Demo has no sound.

    Quiz - Question #1 - the correct answer is in a smaller font

    ==

    Module 15 - IntroToCPGuest

    Integration with Policy Manager slide

    The "Guest User Database" graphic is not formatted properly.

    ==

    Module 16 - Guest Manager

    Demo has no sound

    ==

    Module 17, part 1 - NeedForWebLogin

    There are two videos in this module and both are skipped right over in Chrome. The first one started, went straight to the second video, and then went right to the summary. Ouch.

    This is definitely something I would like to have fixed because it should explain the work flow for a captive portal redirect.

    ==

    Module 17, part 2 - Web Login Customization

    Slide - Page Settings

    The graphic of "Confused? Review Web Logins" is poorly formatted and covers up the underlying text.

    Slide - Page Settings #2 -

    The graphic for #4 covers up the underlying graphic and makes it hard to read. #5 is poorly formatted and has "http://www.google.co" on one line and an "m" on the next line.

    Slide - Default Destination

    The graphic on this slide covers up #2

    No sound in the demo. Note: I'm pretty sure this demo is the wrong demo for this module. Even without the sound, this demo was focused on setting up a logging server under the CPPM in general - not a demo of the Web Login features.

    Posted Jul 21, 2013 07:31 PM

    Here's some more notes from the next set of chapters:

    Module #18, 1

    "Video: Self-registration Packet W…" doesn't play anything

    ==

    Module #18, 2

    Slide: Sample Page

    "The ClearPass Self-Registration Page" text is on-top of the graphic on this page.

    Also, the disabled message at the end of this slide is horribly formatted and is unreadable.

    None of the three demos have sound.

    ===

    Module #18, 3

    Slide Mac Auth

    The text on the slide is overwritten by the arrows. Also, the word "Authentication" is misspelled as "Authenticatio"

    ===

    Module #20 - Admin Users

    Slide: Using AD for admin users

    The numbering in the transcript is messed up. Number 1 is indented, while number 2 seems to be part of number 1 - you'll see what I mean.

    Here's the next set of notes:

    Module #21 - IntroToOnBoard

    Slide - Network Architecture

    The "Web Login Page" text is not formatted for its respective square.

    Slide - Onboard Workflow

    The "OnBoarded Devices" square is not formatted in the center.

    The "Certificates" square is not formatted in the center.

    The "Web Login Page" text is pouring out of its square.

    Slide - Over-the-air Provisioning

    The lines on this page are on top of some of the text

    The second half of this slide is illegible

    Slide - Summary

    There's an extra "3)" at the end of the transcript.

    ===

    Module #22, 1 - Onboard CA

    Slide - Onboard as Root CA

    Clearpass is not capitalized in the second sentence of the transcript.

    There are also multiple fonts used in this slide which look strange.

    Slide - As Root CA

    There is a different font used after point "3."

    Slide - iOS device certificates

    It says "(Animation)" in the transcript.

    Slide - Delete

    The graphic states "Amigopod Local Certificate Authority." There should be a graphic that references Clearpass instead.

    The transcript also starts half-way down the page, rather than from the top line.

    Slide - Summary

    The list of items is indented in the first case and not indented in the other two examples.

    ===

    Module #22, 2 - OnBoard CA Config

    Slide - Submitting a CSR to Onboard

    It's hard to read the graphics on this slide. The drop down menus overlap with the previous graphics.

    Quiz -

    When you hit "submit," the response dialog box is formatted as transparent.

    Here's more of notes:

    Module #23, 2 - Onboard Networking Configuration

    Slide - Redirecting Users on Single Network

    The word "Provisioning Rule" and "Authentication Method Used" are spilling out of their respective squares.

    Slide - OnBoarded Device using EAP-PEAP

    This whole slide is a disaster. The arrow graphic overlaps on the text and just about everything is spilling out of their respective squares.

    Slide - Summary

    The narrator reads 4 distinct objectives of this module; the transcript only lists three.

    ===

    Module #23, 3

    Quiz - Question 4

    The answer is EAP-PEAP, Captive Portal, MAC authentication. Is this right? I didn't read about MAC authentication as an Onboard SSID type. Also, if it is correct, can you please put "Pick 3" or something in this question. It took me 15 minutes to figure it out after trying a bunch of combinations.

    ===

    Module 25 - Insight

    Slide - Dashboard Widgets

    The pop up slides are not synced to the narrator and are all over the place.

    Slide - Administration

    The audio loops a section about the "Test Notification Settings"

    Slide - Summary

    Point #5 begins with a lower case letter.

    Here's my notes from the remaining sections of the class. By the way, I was able to finish the quiz at the end of module 6 - thanks for making that happen!

    -Mike

    Module #26 - Cluster

    Slide - Deployment Scenario - Centralized Campus

    The word "DHCP" is split between two lines.

    Slide - Deployment Scenario - Distributed

    There word "Subscriber (VM)" in the Mid-size Branch circle is split between two lines.

    ===

    Module #27 - QuickConnect

    The whole transcript section of this module feels rushed and very much like a first draft.

    Slide - Deployment Packages

    There's a couple of different fonts in the transcript.

    Slide - Support

    There's a mix of bullets and numbers in the transcript which doesn't make much sense.

    Slide - Browser Support

    The QuickConnect URL is misspelled.

    Slide - Advanced Options

    The transcript is all over the place with bullets and numbered lists.

    Slide - Summary Tab

    The transcript has multiple fonts.

    Slide - Client Experience

    I believe there was a video that was supposed to play… for me, the page just displayed for 5 seconds and then moved unto the "User Interface Tab" slide.

    ===

    Module #28 - Cisco Switch NAD

    There are two slides entitled "Untitled Slide"

    Slide - 802.1x authentication

    The "Clearpass Cisco Switch 802.1x Service" is outside of the formatted square and is two different colors.

    Slide - MAC Authentication

    The "Clearpass Cisco Switch MAC Auth Bypass Service" is outside of the formatted square and is two different colors.

    Slide - Enforcement profile

    The orange box in the IOS code is not formatted properly.

    ===

    Module #29 - Airgroup

    Slide - Model 2

    There's a number 2) listed in the transcript with no text.

    Slide - Aruba Controller

    The transitions in this slide are out of order.

    Slide - Scenario

    The graphic with the Username | Role has the word "teachers" displayed across two cells

    One thing that would definitely help is to change the template on module 9.3. I'm doing some work with OnGuard in the near future and the fact that it's the only module that you can't pause is really problematic.

    Any chance that you and your team can update that template?

    1. When registering, I never received the confirmation email.

    2. I noticed the classes listed in my Proifile, but they are out of order.

    3. The Course Overview says that 80% of the course is Lab and to register for a ClearPass Essentials remote lab class, but I do not see where to do that.

    4. In CPE-1.2-Setup and Installation:

    When first accessing the WebUI, they are showing the login screen. This is incorrect. Actually, you get the screen to enter a Policy Manager license key. I would probably move the Licensing part up to cover that first and then be prepared for the first licensing screen when setting up a new server.

    Transcripts are incorrect, especially for menu.

    In the demo for Authentication, Authorization, and Roles the Role Mapping conditions are incorrect. Two conditions are listed, but ALL should be selected, not the default ANY in order to require both conditions to be true.

    In CPE-3.1- Active Directory

    14, Demo: Using AD attributes in Role Mapping

    The trainer uses "Authorization:Active Directory memberOf EQUALS Executive"... This will not function as expected.

    The correct condition is either "Authorization:Active Directory memberOf CONTAINS Executive" or (preferably) "Authorization:Active Directory Groups EQUALS Executive". The first solution could apply to any group containing the string "Executive". The second solution is more precise.

    Hey Bruce, comments in line:

    1. Did you receive this subsequently or never received it at all?

    2. Indeed... I share your pain. We worked hard with our LMS provider trying to fix this, they were unable to.

    3. Ah - so in order to register for the lab class, you'll need to complete the e-learning modules. I see we have an email thread going on as well, we'll get you registered for a lab course :-)

    4. Yup, so a bit of background on why we wanted to put the licensing later on in the course instead of at the start: Licensing is a complicated topic for ClearPass and we felt that the students would get more out of the licensing module if they first understood how the individual features worked. So that's why we try not to discuss it too much early on

    Hi Bruce!

    I can help with some of these questions..

    1. We purposely turned off confirmation e-mails for this course because in the confirmation e-mail, it explains we have received your payment and you are registered.. Even though one may have not paid etc. So we had to turn that off because it was misleading.
    2. We are aware that the modules are out of order when listed in a profile. The only way we can change that is by setting pre-requisites, Example: Must watch Module 1, then Module 2, etc. But we have students that wanted the ability to skip around and view the modules that is most important to them.. Unfortunately the out of order modules is a trade off to view them in any order or at any time you would like.

    Hope this helps, we really appreciate your feedback!

    Hi Chris,

    I have not yet heard back from the instructional designer. I tried to pass Module 6 once again with Chrome, Firefox, and Safari on the Mac without any luck. I even tried IE11 on Windows 8.1 without any luck.

    Unfortunately, I need to pass that test in order to prove that I have passed the class. Is this something that can get fixed in the next week or so? I should be done with the other sections at that time.

    Thanks!
