If they are standalone masters, how would their configuration be synchronized?

If you configure the backup lms IP that APs will fail over to that second controller. The second controller needs to have an ap group that matches the ap, otherwise it will not come up. Very few people deploy fail over to a controller that is not in the same master local cluster.

Thanks Colin we tested the same and working.only Concern is if the Primary LMS IP not reachable and AP goes to Backup LMS IP and working fine. When AP associated with backup LMS IP and  at this moment if  AP reboots for any reason and Primary LMS IP is still unreachable AP is not coming UP as Master IP is Primary LMS IP.

Hope this is normal and there is no way we can avoid?

In that case, the master discovery mechanism needs to be fool proof if the AP reboots.

You can use one of the following methods:

    1. Master discovery can be set to use ADP (Aruba discovery protocol) .(provided ADP broadcast or multicast packets can reach the controllers)

    2. Use DNS based mechanism for master discovery.

We can add a DNS record for aruba-master & add IP addresses of both the controllers.

So, when AP will discover the master via DNS, it will be presented with two IP's. It will try to reach the first IP & if that is unreahcable it will try for the 2nd one.
