    Hello community,

I have two 2930F with OS Version 16.05.011 in an VSF stack and want to configure MSTP.

In the Aruba 2930F / 2930M Advanced Traffic Management Guide for Version 16.05 on page 96 is this advice "When the Switch is configured in a stack, the number of configurable MSTIs is limited to four."

I can't find this advice in the same Guide for version 16.06. I also can't find any information about this limitation in the change log for version 16.06.

So my question is:is it officially supported to configure 15 MSTIs on Aruba 2930F in an VSF stack? If yes, on which OS version?

    regards

    pyrmonte

    Hi,

Here is output from a 2930 running 16.08:

    switch1# show spanning-tree instance
ist Show the information for the internal spanning tree (IST)
    instance.
<1-16> Spanning tree instance ID for which to show the information.

You can configure up to 16 MST instances.

This is the information form the Aruba 2930F / 2930M Advanced Traffic
Management Guide for Version 16.05 on page 96.

When the Switch is configured in a stack, the number of configurable MSTIs is limited to four.
However, when the Switch is configured as a standalone, a maximum of 16 MSTIs is supported.

I can't find this information in the guides for newer ArubaOS versions. But the changelogs for the newer ArubaOS versions don't contain any information about this.

Can anybody confirm that the limitation of 4 MSTIs for stacks officially does no longer exist in ArubaOS 16.06 and later versions?

Here's the output from a VSF stack:

    2930F-VSF-10G(config)# show span instance
ist Show the information for the internal spanning tree (IST) instance.
<1-16> Spanning tree instance ID for which to show the information.

i will investigate and confirm internally on this and reply back.

It is tested and validated for 16.08 and later.  I would recommend upgrading your switches to that to use 16 instances on a VSF stack.
