2930M stacking

Hello,

I would like know if the Aruba 2930M (JL320A and JL322A) can do VSF stacking using the Aruba 3810M/2930M 4SFP+ MACsec Module - JL083A ( 2 for stacking and 2 for uplink ) ?

Or it can do stacking only using the Aruba 2930M 2-port Stacking Module (JL325A) and will require separate JL083A module for 10G uplink.

Re: 2930M stacking

Hi,

The 2930M can stack up to 10 members using the dedicated backplane stacking module, JL325A, and using the specific stacking cables that go wtih it:

- Aruba 2920/2930M 0.5M Stacking Cable (J9734A)

- Aruba 2920/2930M 1m Stacking Cable (J9735A)

- Aruba 2920/2930M 3m Stacking Cable (J9736A)

Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) or front plane stacking, is only supported on the 5400R and 2930F Switch Series.

Regards,

Re: 2930M stacking

In a Stack with 3x2930M eqquiped with the stacking module, i should use 2 stacking cables between member 1->2 and 2->3? Or three cables between 1->2, 2->3 and 3->1? thanks in advance

Re: 2930M stacking

It is better to use 3 cables

Re: 2930M stacking

Of course, in case of a failure in the member 2, if the 3rd member is connected to the 1st it will never loose connection. But in a configuration as we spoke (ring), I am having issues because when i disconnect the 3rd form the 1st as a test, the 3rd member goes missin in the VSF configuration... am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing to show us the sanitized configuration (so one can understand how you deployed the stack)...what software version your Aruba 2930M are working on?

Re: 2930M stacking

Sorry I was on lunch break. You can find the running conf attached.

When I connect the cable that connects the 1 and 3 member i get:

"

VSF port failure on link 2 port 3/26:
Peer MAC mismatch, expected 3821c7-3167c0, got 3821c7-3188c"
Thanks

Re: 2930M stacking

There is a typo on your configuration

   member 3

      type "JL255A" mac-address 3821c7-9ef7e0

      priority 128

      link 1 name "I-Link3_1"

      link 2 3/25-3/26

there is 2 port on the same link (2) port

you need to set a port on link 1

like other switch :

   member 2

      type "JL256A" mac-address 3821c7-3167c0

      priority 128

      link 1 2/49

      link 1 name "I-Link2_1"

      link 2 2/50

      link 2 name "I-Link2_2"

      exit

Re: 2930M stacking

I suspect you have an issue on VSF Links (logical ports) on Member 3, see below:

vsf
   enable domain 100
   member 1
      type "JL256A" mac-address 3821c7-3188c0
      priority 128
      link 1 1/50
      link 1 name "I-Link1_1"
      link 2 1/49
      link 2 name "I-Link1_2"
      exit
   member 2
      type "JL256A" mac-address 3821c7-3167c0
      priority 128
      link 1 2/49
      link 1 name "I-Link2_1"
      link 2 2/50
      link 2 name "I-Link2_2"
      exit
   member 3
      type "JL255A" mac-address 3821c7-9ef7e0
      priority 128
      link 1 name "I-Link3_1"
      link 2 3/25-3/26
      link 2 name "I-Link3_2"
      exit
   port-speed 10g
   exit
