I understand that the 3810M has backplane stacking. However, I don't have the module.

    Can I have two 3810M 16 SFP+ running VSF?

    No.

Aruba 3810M - exactly like Aruba 2930M - supports only Backplane Stacking through specific Stacking Module and Stacking Cable.

OTOH VSF is employed on Switch series that don't provide such specific physical Modules (and related specific Cables), typically on non-low end access Switch series - this means Aruba 2930F only - that haven't a dedicated expansion slot.

Interestingly Aruba 5400R zl2 could have been provided with such Stacking Module BUT it really wasn't...the VSF approach was preferred using frontplane 10G/40G ports provided by some of its optional v3 zl2 Modules.
