    Hi,

    I have an Aruba 8325 switch and would like to monitor the interface traffic with SNMP.

    However, I am able to get the traffic stats for the physical interfaces, but the VLAN interfaces do not seem to have their interface speed set and the stats counters are always zero.

    For example, the following is returned using SNMPWalk.

    F-MIB::ifDescr.16778527 = STRING: vlan1234
    IF-MIB::ifType.16778527 = INTEGER: propVirtual(53)
    IF-MIB::ifSpeed.16778517 = Gauge32: 0

    How can I use SNMP to get interface traffic stats for VLAN interfaces?

    Thank you!

    Hi,

    What release ?

    do you have enable l3 counters ?

    Hi,

    The system details are:

    Vendor : Aruba
    Product Name : JL635A Aruba 8325-48Y8C 48p 25G 8p 100G swch
    ArubaOS-CX Version : GL.10.03.0071

    Yes, I have added 'l3-counters' to the VLAN interface config but this only seems to add additional L3 counters.

    Here is a normal physical interface 'show interface' counters:

    Rx
    3455219 input packets 305009310 bytes
    0 input error 812 dropped
    0 CRC/FCS
    Tx
    3767813 output packets 345485584 bytes
    0 input error 0 dropped
    0 collision

    Here is the VLAN interface (that the physical interface above is using) 'show interface' counters, with 'l3-counters' added:

    Rx
           L3:
                58618 packets, 5448573 bytes
     Tx
           L3:
                0 packets, 0 bytes

    (I'm not sure why the Tx counters are zero).

    I don't know yet how to access those additional 'L3 counters' using SNMP.

    you'll have access to them through API:

    l3-c-api.JPG But still looking how-to for SNMP...

    I was hoping/expecting to be able to do this with SNMP as that is what our monitoring system is based on.

    I don't remember having this issue when using Cisco L3 switches in the past.

    I wanted to avoid having to have to mess about with integrating our monitoring system with the ArubaOS-CX API to just get VLAN interface stats.

    I don't know the technical details and reasons, but it seems like an oversight that VLAN interfaces cannot be monitored using SNMP and one has to resort to using the APIs.

    Hi,

    That is great to hear!

    Do you have an official source for this?

    I'm not sure what is behind your request to ask for an official source ?

    For time being, to support you further I invite you to reach your local SE

    for appropriate follow-up.

    Hi,

    Sorry, I'm new to these forums and I don't know your role/capacity.

    We are currently having delays in getting official support for our Aruba switches, so I wanted to use this channel for now.

    I just wanted to understand your statement about this issue being fixed and in what version. Is there an official source that verifies/confirms this?

    Hi! welcome!

    The official source is @vicent.giles. Trust him. He is the one of the official voices of Aruba here.

    If he wrote you that your one is a known software defect and it is going to be corrected within the ArubaOS-CX 10.04 software branch with a next to come software release, you can really trust him.

    Why?

    Because - probably - there was already an Aruba Customer that opened a support ticket about a similar issue or that bug was found directly by Aruba development internally: once it is recognized as a software bug it will be corrected for sure.
