Upcoming ArubaOS-Switch release to enable use of third-party transceivers and DACS

Hi All,

As of today the answer is No, but in June with 16.02 software, Yes. The 3m DAC already works. The 5M DAC hasn't been plug tested yet.

Re: Upcoming ArubaOS-Switch release to enable use of third-party transceivers and DACS

To clarify a bit:

The use of third-party transceivers and DACs can be enabled in the upcoming ArubaOS-Switch 16.02 release on 5400R, 3810, and 2920 series devices (and the 2530 series in a later 16.02 release).

This feature can be enabled via the CLI on a supported switch. No support will be provided by Aruba for issues with third-party transceivers, and not all transceivers are guaranteed to work with these switches.

Re: Upcoming ArubaOS-Switch release to enable use of third-party transceivers and DACS

We found the old 1 Foot DACs that shipped with the MAS switches worked with the allow-unsupported-transceiver on 2930F switchs with serial numbers in the CN69 range, started to experience light errors on switches with serial numbers in the CN6B range, and would not even consistently come up and were heavily errored on switches with serial numbers in the CN76/CN77 range.  We have some CN79s untested for this yet, but beware if you have been reusing these DAC cables and you blow a switch, bring new, better DAC cables with you because the replacement switch may not like older "off-brand" DACs.

(These results all with firmware WC.16.03.0004)

You'd be best advised if using 3rd party DACs to test them beforehand in the lab.  We had to order several samples to find one that worked, even with the allow-unsupported-transceiver command.

Re: Upcoming ArubaOS-Switch release to enable use of third-party transceivers and DACS

Has anyone found a reliable vendor that makes 10Gb SFP+ DAC cables? Currently HPe\Aruba have the following 3 cables available, but i want lengths in 2M, 4M, 5M, 6M. I have tried FS.com and Addon Networks, but they both are unable to code the transceiver for DAC and instead they are coded as SR. This causes and issue with Intel NICs as they are intelligent to know if a DAC is plugged in, but coded as an SR. The NIC shuts down. I would prefer to find a vendor that codes both end as HP DAC and not one end intel and one end HP.
