jl256A ( 2930) connectivity to Ciena 3930 with J4858c SFP

     HI

    While in the process of replacing a 2910 switch with a 2930 the process had to stop as the 2930 with same J4858c SFP that worked with the 2910 will not layer 1 connect to the Ciena switch.

    This is the same J4858c SFP that worked properly with the 2910.

    The 2930 will connect to another HP 29xx series switch with that SFP.

    The Ciena is using a xcvr-b00g85a sfp.

    Any help appreciated.

    Greetings!

     

    When you connect the transceiver to the 2930F, are you seeing any response from the switch at all (green/amber lights, event log entries, etc)?  Also, check the output of the following two commands (if you post them here, be sure to redact serial numbers):

     

    switch# show interfaces transceiver <port>
switch# show interfaces transceiver <port> detail

    Thank you for responding

    The transceiver works as expected in the 2930 when connecting with a MM jumper to another HP switch, with the same MM jumper it will not connect to the Ciena switch.

    Then if I take the same HP SFP and move it from the 2930 to a 2920 switch utilizing the same MM jumper the 2920 has connectivity to the ciena switch.

    Please any ideas?

    Please connect the transceiver and cable to the 2930, then send me (via PM) the output of the two commands in my earlier post, so we can figure out what's going on — this transceiver model should be fully compatible with the 2930 series, so if it's not working properly, we will need to investigate the reason why.
