    Hi guys,

I had a look around the place, and tried to understand what is best to do.
The auto channel still may work great, but want to have a little more understanding of the challenge.

Ok, so we know that in 3 channel scenario we have 1 6 11.
Assuming that everyone is using 20Mh channels.

    Now scenarios :

    1) After a scan I have 2 APs on each non overlapping channel.
The signal seen by my AP are :
    Channel 1 : -70 & -80
    Channel 6 : -60 & -70
    Channel 11 : -50 & -60

Is it safe to say that I'm better off selecting channel 1? Or does it not matter?
If it does matter, what will be the consequences?

    2) Same scenario as above,
    Channel 1 : -70 & -80
    Channel 6 : -60 & -70
    Channel 11 : -50 & -60
The only difference now is that I see an adjacent channel interference on channel 3.
It makes sense to choose channel 11 right?

    3) Same again
    Channel 1 : -70 & -80
    Channel 6 : -60 & -70
    Channel 11 : -50 & -60

Now I see someone using channel 4 and channel 8. Is it safe to assume that I will be better off using 1 or 11? Or will it matter if I can hear one stronger than another?

I'm just trying to figure out what is the order of things that you need to consider then choosing a channel.

    Number of channel interference?
    Number of adjacent channel interference?
The number of 5Mhz that are overlapping?
Signal strength of the nearby SSID and so on?

And I think all comes down to time when the channel is busy?

    Hope this makes sense :)

    Cheers,
    A

All of these things can change over time.  You really are best off leaving auto-selection on and not worry about it.

Oh yes, I do agree that in most cases the auto channel will be best.

I just try to understand the ins on how it works and what thake priority over another.
    There should be a login.

Does it make any difference if cochannel interference happens on 5Mhz or 10Mhz?

    Ah, great! thanks.
