205 vs 105 Signal level

    I had a customer recently swap out all of his AP-105's with AP-205's.

     

    Since then, they have noticed (and I have verified onsite) a noticible 7-8 drop in signal level.  They have AP's in every other classroom. The problem is with the classroom where there isn't an AP. WIth the 105's signal levels in those areas at -56 and with the 205's it's around -63 which is causing some stations to disconnect.

     

    AP's are all in the same AP group and I have the power levels as high as they will go.

     

    Any help appreciated.

    How are these mounted ?
    Do you have 80 MHz channels on ?
    Do you have the lower data rates removed on the SSID ?

    They are mounted on drop cieling grid in the same locations as what the 105's were.

     

    80MHz support for both bands is on. 

     

    See attached for data rates. and 802.11a radio profile.

    Jaasperff,

     

    They are not the same access point, so they do not have the same pattern.  What does your ARM profile look like?

    Please leave the VHT enabled that allows you to support your 802.11n clients

    You have modified too many settings.

    You need to:

    - uncheck handoff assist
    - return the basic and transmit rates to defaults on both bands
    - uncheck 80 MHz support in your arm profile
    - make your min TX power 12 and max TX power 18

    Too many things have been changed that will have a significant affect on client performance. Since you changed access points you need to remove those changes.

    Your 11a basic rates are set too high and you shoudl consider disabling 80Mhz .

    If you guys didn't do a proper channel planning and tested all your devices to make sure they support all the DFS channels (this is required to have a successfull 802.11ac deployment)

    What country code are you running ?

    What software version ?

    Can you send output of the following commands run against an AP205 and also against any AP105 that you might have

     

    show ap allowed-max-EIRP ap-name <apname>

    show ap allowed-channels ap-name <apname>

    show ap show ap regulatory

    show ap active

    I have made the changes you suggest cjoseph.

     

    I will check with end customer and let you know if it made a difference and update post most likely tomorrow.
