3400 Controller not accepting any more (R)APs

Hi folks,

I face the following issue:

Using a 3400 Controller with AOS version and a mixture of campus and remote APs. The license usage shows as follows:

(Aruba3400) #show ap license-usage

Total AP Licenses : 180
AP Licenses Used : 133
MUX Licenses Used : 0
Unused AP Licenses : 47
Licenses used for Campus AP's : 41
Available Campus AP's : 23
Licenses used for Remote AP's : 92
Available Remote AP's : 47
Total Ortronics AP Licenses : 0
Ortronics AP Licenses Used : 0
Total Indoor Mesh AP's Supported : 256
Indoor Mesh AP's Active : 0
Total Outdoor Mesh AP's supported : 256
Outdoor Mesh AP's Active : 0
Total PEF Licenses : 180
PEF Licenses Used : 133
Total 802.11n-120abg Licenses : 0
802.11n-120abg Licenses Used : 0
Total 802.11n-121abg Licenses : 0
802.11n-121abg Licenses Used : 0
Total 802.11n-124abg Licenses : 0
802.11n-124abg Licenses Used : 0
Total 802.11n-125abg Licenses : 0
802.11n-125abg Licenses Used : 0

So apparently enough room to add further campus as well as remote APs. However, currently the controller doesn't accept any further AP. A previous attempt with a RAP5 shows the IL flag hissed:

it-test default RAP-5WN Up 59s IL

The RAP5 has already been reset with the paperclip button, but shows no change.

Also checked the image version on the AP, which matches the controllers: Sat Feb 18 17:31:58 PST 2012 Sat Feb 18 17:31:58 PST 2012 Mon Mar 22 12:40:27 PDT 2010 Yes 1 0 0 0 Done

Anyone some further hint where to look?

Re: 3400 Controller not accepting any more (R)APs

Ok, it seems I stumbled upon the answer myself:

A 3400 controller supports 64 campus AP or four times the number in remote AP (=256), right?

In my licensing output it shows 41 campus AP used.

64 less 41 = 23 remaining campus AP or four times the numer in remote AP (= 92).

And Lo! the license output shows "92 licenses used for remote AP"

41 + 92 = 133 AP in total, exactly the number of currently used APs. Any other additional AP gets the "IL" mark.

So, I understand, my controller is at it's limits, but ... it should have said so in the first place!

Showing me 23 available campus AP and 47 available remote AP ist somewhat confusing ...

Maybe in some future firmware, why not include this small calculation in the counters? :smileywink:

In the license numbers are shown more clearly:
