    Hi there,

We are planning to buy 60 AP-105 for wifi.
We can manage the AP's with one master AP.

But we can also buy a Controller or another instance like airwave.

    Plannig is :
2 networks both a own Radius.

max 1800 users on the wifi network.

What is the disadvantege of making one AP the master and configure everything on that AP.

We are planning to buy 60 AP-105 for wifi. We can manage the AP's with one master AP. - OK, you're talking about Instants? Yes.

But we can also buy a Controller or another instance like airwave. - You could do.

Plannig is :  2 networks both a own Radius. - Ok.

max 1800 users on the wifi network. - Sounds managable (15 clients per radio).

What is the disadvantege of making one AP the master and configure everything on that AP. - You are talking about instants, and the virtual controller? There aren't any big disadvantages in this case.

Are you thinking Instant vs. controller? If so, the biggest difference that jumps out, is that you might have to tag the WiFi VLANs around all switch ports to which instants attach (depending on your logical design). With a controller, it only need be at the controller ports (assuming a L2 design).

Another thing to concider is if remote access points are a requirement. You'll need a controller to terminate them on.

Other than that, what "the racking monkey" said.

    sorry, i mean instants.

The ap's are connected to a Cisco switch and we put there the Vlan.

so if we want to use it as Instants, we can begin with just buy them and make 1 AP master to manage the AP's

Later on we can buy a controller if needed.

    Why i ask.

there is a company who say you NEED airwave, it is not good to manage 60 AP's with no controller or Airwave.

But how i see it, it is manageble for us It guys..

You don't need Airwave but there's certainly a lot to be gained in terms of reporting, troubleshooting etc.

Couple of recommendation from me would be to go for IAP115's and use a dedicated AP VLAN.

I believe there's very little price difference between 105 and 115.

Instants like to chat so keeping them on their own VLAN when there are this many should be a no-brainer.

IAP 115 would be good! but if you multiply 60 APS that increment in money isnt that little...

If you don thave budget for all IAP 115.  You could buy some and put one of those as master.  They have more memory and better CPU!

    okey good to know...

We already have a AP-135 and wil also buy 2 or 3 AP-225..

think they are the best to be the master.

Price difference is $200 list between an IAP-105 and IAP-115 so depending on what discount you may get, could be cheaper for you.

it is 1800 users or devices?

I just got the info that the recommended limit on users its around 2000 devices in a cluster.  Its not hard limit but its the recommended.

    Take that in mind!

Nightshade, can you please point me at where that client limit is recommended as 1800 max on a VC? I'm working on something similar at the moment to which this applies.

    Thanks.
