650 controller - SNMP can't find AP List

    Posted Apr 05, 2014 07:11 PM

    I'm hoping someone can help me.  I've spent about a day trying to find any info on my AP 105s via SNMP.  I have 1 650 controller running 6.1.3.12 with 10 APs.  I've spent extensive time going over the MIB guide as well as googling till my fingers fall off (thanks Kayak commercial), and all I can find is wlsxSwitchGlobalAPTable .  Unfortunately, I get the following:

    server:~ bobdronski$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.168.251 .1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.1.3.4
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.14823.2.2.1.1.3.4 = No Such Object available on this agent at this OID

    a getnext takes me straight to .1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.1.3.5, so there's no subtree visible.

    Now the documentation says this only works on a master switch, but since I only have one switch, it has to be a master.  Is there some reason the OID will only exist on a master controller with slaves?  Is there some other way for me to get this information?

    FYI, I am able to pull some snmp info, e.g. free space....

    server:~ bobdronski$ snmpwalk -v 2c -c public 192.168.168.251 .1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.1.1.11.1.4
    SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.14823.2.2.1.1.1.11.1.4.1 = INTEGER: 97432

    TIA,

    Bob

    Try this:

     snmpwalk -v 2c <ip address of controller> -c <snmp read string> 1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.5.2.1.4

     This is what I get:

     snmpwalk -v 2c 192.168.1.3 -c public 1.3.6.1.4.1.14823.2.2.1.5.2.1.4
    WLSX-WLAN-MIB::wlanAPIpAddress.'.$l..D' = IpAddress: 192.168.1.71
    WLSX-WLAN-MIB::wlanAPIpAddress.'.$l...' = IpAddress: 192.168.1.112
    WLSX-WLAN-MIB::wlanAPIpAddress.'......' = IpAddress: 192.168.1.90
    WLSX-WLAN-MIB::wlanAPIpAddress.'....@.' = IpAddress: 7.1.1.2
    WLSX-WLAN-MIB::wlanAPIpAddress.'......' = IpAddress: 192.168.1.116

    Still not sure exactly why I'm getting such different data.  Since you showed .45 on the snmpwalk example but .4 on the output, I'm showing both…

    …

    Now at this point I should mention that I've been doing the snmpwalk on a mac running 10.8.  Interestingly, I can't use the parameters in the order you show--generates an error.

    Also, I really am a n00b when it comes to SNMP.  I'm trying to get this data into a zabbix server.  I have been able to pull SNMP data from netgear switches and a sonicwall NSA2400.

    I realize I could just ping the ap's for a simple up/down, but really wanted to play with the capabilities I might have.

    Thanks,
    Bob

    It should be .4, NOT .45.  I changed the original to reflect this, as you discovered.  I apologize...

    Your output is showing:

     Your output is showing the ip addresses and names of the access points.  The ip addresses are located at the ip address parameter and the names start with the "STRING" parameter.  It seems like you have not renamed any of your access points from their defaults.  Their names are their wired mac addresses.

    The snmpwalk syntax is different between the airwave box that I did mine on vs. the one that is on a mac.

    I really cannot help you with Zabbix.  Maybe someone on the list has a clue.

    First of all, there's absolutely no reason to apologize.  You have been helping me tremendously.

    I totally understand standard naming and IP Addresses.  All that is correct.  I guess my question then becomes about understanding the MIB tree structure a little better.  Why was I wrong to look at the wlsxSwitchGlobalAPTable as opposed to the

    wlsxWlanAPGroupTable?  I'll be able to handle the zabbix side.  I just am having trouble understanding the correct starting point to get my information from.

    I honestly could not tell you that.  I search for "hierarchy" in the MIB documents and take it from there.
