We are upgrading our 650 to a 7024 and I read this thread https://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Wireless-Access/Migrate-650-to-7010/m-p/255014

and was curious if this would be the same process? One of the steps says to upgrade to the latest OS. Would that mean they both need to be the same OS or just the latest OS for that controller? When adding the 7024 as a local I assume it assumes the configuration of the Master (650)? Anything else we should look out for?

We are also using some AP's that phase out with 6.4x so would it be ok just to configure the 7024 with 6.4x instead of 6.5x?

The 7024 was first supported with 6.4.3.0, so any 6.4.3.x release or later should be fine.

After updating the 7024 to the same version as the 650 and adding the 7024 to the network as a local controller I noticed that I can see the local controller from the master (Network/All WLAN controllers) but not the Master from the Local. Is that the way it is supposed to work? Also, I have a couple of AP's that have 'connected' to the local controller but I havent changed any of the LMS settings. Why would only a couple of AP's connect to the local? And why the local and not the Master?

The goal is to ultimately remove the 650 and I'm just about ready to give that a try but just found that the Guest DHCP and VLAN settings (captive portal) are not listed in the Local controller (guest SSID does appear in the local controller). If I take the 650 out of the picture and then change the local to the Master will the configuration settings for the Captive Portal appear?
