I have simple lab set up with 1 7030 controller and 1 AP-205. The controller is running verion 6.4.2.3.

The AP 205 is moved from a product site which I have restored it the factory setting.

The AP205 is connected will Dell N2024P then connected to Dell N3024, the controller is connected to N3024 directly.

When bootup the AP-205, I encountted following message

AP rebooted Wed Dec 31 16:04:36 PST 1969; SAPD: Unable to contact switch: HELLO-TIMEOUT. Last Ctrl msg: HELLO len=1023 dest=10.8.2.2 tries=10 seq=0
shutting down watchdog process (nanny will restart it)

The AP is able to received IP assignment from DHCP server on N3024.

It was observed that the amber light on Ap connection .port is on.

any idea what might cause this problem?

    Hi,

What is the Master controller's IP? it is 10.8.2.2?

Break into the apboot mode, and ping the the Master IP to see if it is reachable.
Since it is moved from a different site, you can also try to purge the AP.

    Thanks,

    HI,

The master controller is 10.8.2.2. I am not able to ping the controller, the AP and master controller are in the same vlan i.e. VLAN62. I have a notebook connected to the same vlan, the notebook can ping to the AP and the controller.

      The AP has been purged.

    Hi,

The AP couldn't ping the controller. The log "Unable to contact switch" is expected when the AP is not able to communicate with the controller.
I think this is something related to the switch / LAN side if the AP and the controller are on the same VLAN.

    1. Does a different AP work on the same switch port?
    2. Does this AP work if you swap it with the notepad?
    3. Are there any other APs up on this controller?

Try the below, you may find something helpful.

    apboot> purgeenv

    apboot> dhcp

    apboot> ping <Controller-IP>

    apboot> boot

Allow the boot sequence to be logged and break into the apboot mode again and check what information is stored on the AP.

    apboot> printenv

    Thanks,

    HI Rajaguru,

This is only AP in the system.

When doing purgeenv, dhcp, I can ping to the gateway and controller.

    .

After booting, the AP is no longer able to ping the gateway and controller. Please see  attached log file.

    regards,

    Wilson

    Seaman,

It is possible that in the default AP group, there is an AP system profile with an LMS-IP that points the AP away from the controller after it attaches.  If you see an LMS-IP in there, remove it.

    Colin,

There is no LMS-IP currently being configured.

I just got an AP103H, the AP can connect to the controller without problem.

Is there something wrong with this AP-205?

On the commandline of the controller, type "show log system 50" to see if you have any clues about what could be happening...

Does the controller have a single ip address or multiple ip addresses?  Does the output of "show switch ip" match the ip address that the AP is trying to access?

    Colin,

I have solved the problem. I found there is LMS-IP setting in APGroup, so  removed it and the AP come up shortly.

    Thank you for the help!
