ArubaOS Ver: 6.4.0.3

AP: AP-225

Controller based solution. No IAP's.

We just got a couple of new AP-225's.

I am getting ready to do some testing with one.

I added it to the AP Whitelist DB, it got picked up by the controller, I assigned it to our standard AP-Group, and assigned it a static IP address.

When I attempt to change the Mesh-Role to Mesh-Portal I get an error

The AP-Group that it is apart of currently is made up of all AP-105's. Could this be what is causing the issue? Should I create another AP-Group just for the AP-225's? I haven't found anything stating that the AP-225's don't support meshing.

I tried doing the provisioning from the commandline as well but I didn't have any success (although I suspect I may not have done it correctly).

I haven't been able to find anything on this error either.

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

The AP225 does not support mesh at this time.

It is as that simple eh?

They really do not support meshing? I thought perhaps that was just a generic message.

Did not expect that, I obviously did not do enough reading about the 225's.

Sorry I have another question.

I would assume that at some point the ability to mesh the 225's will be introduced.

I was just wondering where would be the best place watch for this support? Will this be listed in the Controller changes? Or is there firmware documentation for the AP's themselves that would show this?

It will show up in the release notes and normally it would not be in a point release it would be in a major release  (6.3.2.x?).  I will come back to this thread and post whenever news becomes available.

Just out of curiousity, why would meshing not be available at launch time of the 225's?

Is this due to it being an entirely new AP? Or something with AC?

I can only assume that it requires and major work to be done on the firmware as well.

I am not trying to be critical or anything. I am just curious about the challenges of implementing it.

I do not know.  It is a new access point, so if I were to guess, that is what I would guess.

It is absolutely fair to be critical, because that is how Aruba figures out what to do next.

It makes sense. I can only assume that there are a lot of challenges in implementing meshing!

Wow, this has just caught me and a customer out.

Can anyone confirm if meshing is already working on AP-270 series or will this also be a delayed feature?

sounds like a chipset thing.

datasheet says Q3 2014 for mesh functionality

Target is Nov/Dec 2014.

So far though we are liking the 225's regardless.

Any updated ETA on when / what release this mesh will be available on the ac APs?

Or did I miss an anouncement somewhere and is it supported by now?

Mesh for the AP-220 series AP is now available in AOS 6.4.3.1

I've just run across this for a couple IAP-225s (running 6.4.2.3-4.1.2.1).  Will mesh support be added in a coming release on the instant side as well?

Edit: Nevermind - just found your reply on http://community.arubanetworks.com/t5/Aruba-Instant-Cloud-Wi-Fi/Mesh-with-IAP-215-RW/m-p/237084 - I'll wait patiently for now :)

Nothing like spending 5 hours trying to get my 225s to mesh and finally coming accross this thread only to find out it can't be done.

The mesh is now supported (since release ArubaOs 6.4.3.1) ,  we have test it and we got good results.
