AP-225 stress testing - Client disconnect problem

    So I have a customer who is performing stress testing on their wireless network. They have (4) AP-225's being tested. We raised the max associations to 255. Connected 255 users to a single AP without a problem, but as soon as we started passing .4mbps per client, associations started to go down at a steady rate. Any idea why this would happen?

    You should open a TAC case so that they can understand what is happening.  There are a number of reasons, including possibly a bug, why that would happen.

    So these devices are connected to each AP and do not roam. Is it possible that Client Match could be causing some type of issue with Load Balancing of users across APs? 

     

    Once we have 255 clients pushing data, clients on other APs start to drop off. I would think that the 255 clients would be moved, but they can't roam so could that cause some sort of issue with the APs?

    What is the RF utilization on the channels that the APs are on.  It is possible that the RF is at capacity so users cannot transmit or receive any management traffic.  Being able to set maximum clients to 255 is not something that is really meant to be done.  While the CPU might be able to push traffic, the RF utilization might be too great.

     

    There are too many variables to even understand what is going on.  If you want to do real testing, only put that SSID on a single AP, so you can eliminate any effects of clientmatch.

    Channel utilization jumped pretty high 70-90% at times, but seemed to stabilize. That is an excellent point, they want to have 4 APs loaded at a time, but maybe we can push a different SSID to each one to keep roaming from happening. I will look into that further. Thanks for the input.

    The lowest common denominator is channel utilization before anything. When it reaches those levels random failures occur. What is the goal, exactly?
