    Hi Guys,

    Long time lurker, first time poster here.  I'm on the lookout for materials that can help me explain the do's and don'ts of installing wireless Access Points to my manager and our facilities manager who contracts the physical installs out to a cabling provider.  I know the obvious things such as proper orientation and height but I'm really looking for some common mistakes that installers make that might be illustrated.  I have some pictures of my own but I figure someone, especially a vendor might have something a lot more comprehensive.  I want to teach the managers the bare minimum of what they need to know for physical installation without getting too deep into the technical details.

    Can anyone link me to some helpful guides you might have found regarding physical installations of APs?  So far I've only been able to dig up AP model specific instructions that only really illustrate their specific bracket and how to attach it to the intended structure.

    Thanks,

    Greg

    If you want to make a "rogues gallery" I've got some photos I could share.

    Illustrating diversity failure:

    • antennas pointing down different aisles in a warehouse
    • mounted on either side of a building corner
    • pointed in different directions to get "better" coverage.

    Also a good one showing gender-changers and cable loops to extend high-gain antennas which effectively suck all of the gain back out.

    Some of these are obvious, but there are some good examples of what not to do here.

    Thanks Matt,

    I'd love to see some of these!

    Loss calculation:

    -0.5 dB :: half meter pigtail (AP connection to N)

    -2.0 dB :: 2 meter jumper (N to N)

    -0.5 dB :: N to N gender changer

    net -3 dB to get to 4.5 dB gain patch antennas outside

    Speaking of patch antennas outside, let's aim them in different directions for better coverage:

    Or place 12 dB gain omnis far enough around the building that most clients will only be able to see one at a time:
