    Hi, I have 2 questions:
    1) Is the function of AP in am-mode just to collect data about RF enviroment, clients, perform WIDS scaning and WIPS containment (with license), but not to provide network services to clients?
    2) Is the function of AP in ap-mode to provide network services to clients and, if AP is free of active clients (or is low loaded) perform collecting data about RF enviroment, clients, performing IDS scaning and WIPS containment (with license) ?

    1) AM mode will not serve client data (no ssid's will be broadcasted from an AM). Per Aruba best practices are 4:1 ratio of AP: AM.  These devices do not fall under the same regulations as a device that broadcasts so you are able to scan non-local regulated channels (say channel 13-14 (2.4Ghz) here in the US). They also will scan at a faster rate since they aren't having to server client data.

    2) AP can server some of the same functions as an AM but when you contain rogue devices it will eat up BW, which would have been used for client traffic. The scanning is 10sec on channel (serving clients) 110ms of channel scanning the air. By default this scan takes place even is there are a lot of users on the AP. You can stop scanning for specific applications defined in the policies.
