AP93H on 6.5.4.0 heartbeat problems

Doing a bit of troubleshooting to try and resolve issues with APs going down... and I've found a large number of our AP93H units are flipping between controllers.

We don't use any HA, each AP system profile has a backup controller and we rely on the AP to fail over if it loses heartbeat.

The AP93H is doing this a lot. In each case it's just one AP that fails over out of multiple APs on the same Vlan/subnet and switch. The AP is not rebooting, they have the expected uptime. This issue appears to only be affected the AP93H.

    Anyone else seen this?

I should add this isn't a problem that's new to 6.5.4.0 I found someone talking about this same issue back in 2015... and it was me.

    Hi!

What is the failover reason listed when issuing show ap debug system-status on an AP that recently had the issue?

Are they provisioned as RAPs or CAPs?

    Cheers,

    Hey... They're configured as CAPs.

Here's the latest failover notice from the rebootstrap information:

    2017-11-26 23:07:21 Switching to LMS 144.32.64.34: Missed heartbeats: Last Sequence Generated=63251 Sent=63251 Rcvd=63240; eth Sent=5764883 Drop=0; gre Sent=5764883 Drop=0 First=1; ipsec Sent=0 Drop=0. Last Ctrl message: KEEPALIVE len=45 dest=144.32.64.36 tries=1 seq=150

    2017-11-26 23:13:32 Switching to primary LMS 144.32.64.36

The switch has another 15 APs connected, none of which experienced a problem at this time, but have rebootstrapped at other points.

I certainly haven't ruled out there being a network issue, but we don't see multiple APs rebootstrap at the same time (which is a sure sign of a network problem) and whilst we see a lot of AP93H do this, I don't believe I'm seeing it with any other model... Possibly the 130 series, but I don't have enough data points for those.

Perhaps you could try to slightly increase the "Bootstrap threshold" in the AP system profile?

    Cheers,
