ARM sets EIRP to max for 5Ghz Radios

    Hi,

I've noticed that if leave ARM to its own devices (leaving min/max EIRP at defaults), it adjusts 2.4 radios fairly appropriately.  However, the story very different for the 5Ghz. The radios are adjusted to the max allowable EIRP. This is true for virtually all of them, with very few exceptions.

Looking over the RF, it's fairly clean in the 5Ghz space of both co-channel and off-channel interference.

    Any ideas?

By default if an access point is on an "Empty Channel" where no other access points are, it will set the access point to max power.  You can change this by lowering the ARM Max TX power to whatever you want.

This goes back to the basic that 5GHz have more non overlapping channels as comparedt o 2.4GHz.

Thanks for a quick response. This makes complete sense.

Is a general recommendation to split ARM for g & a radios and setup different EIRP min/max bands, appropriately?

You can certainly do that.  It is definitely better to separately control the two different bands, yes.
