Air Monitor Functions on Dedicated Spectrum Monitors

    When an AP is configured as a full-time spectrum monitor, does it still provide air-monitoring capabilities such as IDS, rogue AP detection, and Rogue AP containment?

    it will only function as a spectrum monitor not as an air monitor.

    That is what I thought, however I read the following in Aruba's App Note on Spectrum Analysis (from page 8): 

     

    When the radio is in a spectrum monitor mode its primary responsibility is to perform spectrum scanning across the entire band of operation. This data is then fed up to the Aruba Mobility Controller and AirWave. The APs also scans for wireless IDS event detection, rogue detection and containment, but it does not serve clients in this mode.

    Our Aruba SE tells me that dedicated Spectrum Monitors DO perform IDS/IPS functions so I am getting conflicting info here.  Can someone from Aruba chime in?

    When the radio is set to spectrum, IDS/IPS scanning is performed, but no containment is performed.
