Air Monitor saturation?

    Hi,

    How close can an Air Monitor be to an AP before AM performance is effected by a higher noise floor from the close AP?

    as far as I can tell there wont really be a NF concern here but you could say in theory there might be a concern from the signal being too strong (if the neighbour AP was on max tx power) and overwhelming the rx front end of the AM, hence it would probably be reasonable to stay at least 3ft/1m away from the AP if you can, worst case 1ft/30cm.

    Hi.  Thank-you for your help.  We were able to contract with a wireless engineer, and he had a similar response  ->>  While there may be some AM performance degradation on the channel that the AP is operating on, there will be no degradation on the other channels that the AM is scanning through and monitoring.  Thanks again!

    thinking some more about the other channels, it's possible that if the nearby AP is on say channel 36+ and transmitting heavily, that the AM may get into a bit of trouble hearing low rssi frames on 44-48 due to the adjacent channel interference coming out of the nearby AP. So with that in mind, the 3ft/1m is probably a reasonable place to start, and increase the distance away from active APs if you have a low number of AMs (which makes sense anyways since you want the AMs to be equidistant from the APs and around the coverage area).
