    Hi everyone,

    I am pretty new to this and I really appereciate if anyone can help me on this.

    I have a powerconnect-w3400 on site 1 and couple of aruba 105s on my site 2, on different subnets. I want my APs to see the controller on site one. and I also have a local DHCP server on site 2.

    could anyone tell me what whould be the best to do to connect APs to controller?

    Thanks,

    Yasaman

    There are 3 ways in which an AP discovers the controller

    1. DHCP - option 43

    2. ADP - requires layer2 connectivity

    3. DNS query for "aruba-master"

    Since, the AP and controller are not on the same VLAN, you can use option1 or option3 for the APs to discover the master controller IP address.

    Option1: You need to configure the Option 43 on the DHCP server to the controller IP address

    Option3: You need to configure an A record on your DNS server for "aruba-master" that resolves to the controller IP address

    Hope it helps.

    Thank you so much for your answer,

    Can you tell me how am i going to do these, first for DHCP option43, what whould be the vendor class ID and the sub_option code and is the IP the IP of my controller? Can you please tell me a step by step on how to do option 43 and what needs to be done on my controller and Ap?

    and as for DNS, i just need to creat that record and I am good to go?

    Thanks again

    Yes. you just need to create a DNS entry for "aruba-master" and you are good to go. In that case you do not need to configure option 43 on your DHCP server.

    Here is a cheatsheet  on option 43

    Option 60 == ArubaAP

    Option 43 == x.x.x.x

    Where x.x.x.x == IP address of the master controller

    You can designate one of the controllers as the 'master' and all APs will boot up to that controller and get their profile information from that controller.

    How many controllers do you have in your network?
    By default, all controllers come up as a standalone master controller.

    It would be very useful to read the campus VRD to understand the working of Aruba controllers and APs.
