Morning,

I was looking for some information on the meaning of the LED's on a 225 AC Access Point.

I have seen some that are flashing green and some that go orange. Curious as to exactly what they all mean. Also can you let me know how I can check if an Access Point is broadcasting at AC or not.

Here are the different LED status meanings:

You can run show ap bss-table ap-name <ap-name> and look for a-VHT for the phy.

show ap active

Using VHT  : Very High throughput; 80: 80MHz; 160: 160MHz; 80p80: 80MHz + 80MHz

I understand that VHT (Very High Throughput) means AC, unless I am mistaken. Meaning since my APs are reporting that in their status section they are pushing out AC Wireless.

I was not sure as despite having PWR, ETH, 2.4GHz & 5.0GHz all green an Engineer told me that without a POE+ Injector I would not get full AC Wireless.

I believe I figure it out that a POE switch can't power multiple AC AP's, however a single POE Injector can power just 1 AP.

is there a command in the controller cli that will allow us to see the power status of these APs? if they are full or in power save mode?

We recently changed all APs to 225 and ran to the same "issue".

However we were wondering if somehow we can force all AP to be in full mode (not POE power saving)

This is just an estetic issue on our case because the red light is disturbing the clients.

I'm actually having the same problem with the new 325.  I can't seem to force it to use AT power.  Wondering if it is on the Cisco side as well.  I know this is old, but any solution?

What switch is this and what is your configuration on the switch side?

I found the issue was that the POE Injector was not strong enough to fully power the AP. Replacing my Injectors fixed the issue.

Ah, I figured it out.  I had to enable LLDP in order to negotiate and power greater than 15.4 watts.  As soon as I enabled LLDP on the switch, they powered all the way up.  CDP is supposed to do the same, but for some reason it didn't work.  I didn't look into that much.

Any update?

Seems like we have some issues with extreme brand switches...

and by the way something about 2 eth ports connected using LACP. I wondering if some other protocols/profiles/nodefault config affects this behavior about APs.

I got just a few APs in flag "2s" (2 = Using IKE version 2, s = LACP striping) that i testing on the Configuration > AP Specific > Edit "APsWith2EthernetUplinkTest"

Enabling LLDP on the switches worked and has been running these for 6 months.  I never went back to try to get CDP working instead, just because LLDP didn't really bother me.  I can't remember where I read that LLDP or CDP was required to go above 15.4 watts, but it was Aruba documentation.

Seen alot of flaky POE negotiation with the newer code(6.4.4.X) and AP32X/AP27X/AP22X gear....Only way I got the AP275s to come up fully was to goto this GA-code.

Tell us how to tune up the switches side about all this details please, a good thing could be do it in 2 divisions:

1.-General concept (seems like al ready we had comment about it...), how to be sure (commands) about where is the problem (switch side or controler/ap aruba side)... few commands or console debug or packet captures... something to check keywords?.

2.-Paste example config of Aruba side and few switches side (Cisco, Extreme, Avaya, etc..).

btw: We use "best practices"... meanning: We check the release notes of new pre-releases and GA releases, we only just use GA in production as TAC recommend us and we work with workarounds on issues too...

Hi, I am confused with the way 3 x AP225 LEDs are flashing.  My engineer assures me that they are not connected or showing on the WLC but their lights are as follows:

Green power light - solid

Data light - amber fast flashing

2.4 & 5 radio flashing green

According to the LED table, that means they are in AirMon mode but my support team cant see them from the WLC.

Any ideas?

Do you have different controller?  They might be connected to that one...

We use one master controller (installing 2 x 2 setup soon)

Unfortunately, you need to figure out where those APs are connected to determine why they are doing what they are doing.  The console cable is probably the most definitive way to do that.  Without info about what controller they are connected to, we cannot explain any of that behavior.

Is it possible that they are connected but have an issue?

Type "show ap database" on the commandline of the controller and see if any of your APs have "Flags"

Is there a command to remotely check on the status of the LEDs on a AP225 ?

Had a AP225 that appears to be working (was able to connect to it) but the Power LED was Red ;mean it is powering up but it had been up for many days.

I just updated my 7210 Controller to 6.5.0.3 and now all my 225's seem to be running in Power Saving Mode and before the upgrade I had all green status lights. Also I have 115's that seem to still have all Green and 105's that are still all green. What's going on with my 225's? 

Hi, you dont mention if your APs are on PoE+ switches or connected by power injectors.  If power injectors, go see if they are orange or green as maybe the interupt / reboot of the APs meant they disconected

All AP's on this campus are powered by Catalyst switchs that support POE+. I checked the status and all the ports are running at 15.4W. 

FIXED IT! I had to enable LLDP on all my ciso switchs for POE+ to start working agian. 

I have a  RAP 205H  version  6.4.4.16 with a steady red light status but clients can connect  to it.

what should I do any ideas?

 I also have to mention that I do not controller the  uplink from the Aruba device but can only see it on the controller.

SSH into the controller and type "show ap database" to see if you see any flags next to taht AP.

I have the same problem with my 225 that's running through a powered 8-port switch. However, when I tried a (much) shorter ethernet cable through the same switch it worked fine.

So here's my question: Is it my endings that are at fault, or did the kinks I  inadvertantly put in my cable somehow affect the power?
