We have a 3400 controller with 52 access points. We are in the process of extending our wifi and it means adding 25 more access points. Can our 3400 controller handle this? please advice.

The 3400 controller can only handle 64 access points, unfortunately..

Ok thanks. Is there an option to run a virtual controller so that I can add
    10 ap to it?

The only option to run a Virtual Controller is on ArubaOS 8.1 and above.  The 3400 is only supported to ArubaOS 6.x.  The recommended replacement for the 3400 is the 7030:  http://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/support/EOS_Notice_3000_Series_Controllers.pdf which supports ArubaOS 6.x and 8.x.

EDIT.  You should be looking at the 7205 controller, instead:  http://www.arubanetworks.com/assets/ds/DS_7200Series.pdf
