If you have forgotten or lost your Aruba Controllers Password it can be reset following the bellow steps.

    1. Connect to the cotroller via Console cable
    2. Login using "password" as the user name and use "forgetme!" as the password.
    3. Type "enable" to enter the enable mode
    4. Type "conf term" to enter configuration mode
    5. In configuration mode, enter ‘mgmt-user admin root’ and reset the password
    6. Re-login using the new admin password you just set.
    7. Enter "enable" and then "conf term" to enter configuration mode
    8. Type ‘enable secret’ reset the enable mode password.
    9. Lastly perform a "write mem" to save your new passwords and make it persistent

    Example:

    User: password
    Password: forgetme!
    (aruba) >enable
    Password: enable
    (aruba) #configure terminal
Enter Configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z
    (aruba) (config) #mgmt-user admin root
    Password:
    Re-Type password:
    (aruba) (config) #exit
    (aruba) #exit
    (aruba) >exit

    User: admin
    Password:
    (aruba) >enable
    Password: enable
    (aruba) #configure terminal
Enter Configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z
    (aruba) (config) #enable secret
    Password:
    Re-Type password:
    (aruba) (config) #write memory

Please give Kudos if you learnt something new or useful :)

Just want to add on this article, I encounter a problem on Aruba 7005 controller no matter how I change the admin password using the command above it wont work. I did found the following command.

    User: password
    Password:*********

    (Aruba) (config) #no mgmt-user localauth-disable
    (Aruba) (config) #mgmt-user admin root
    Password:********

    Re-Type password:********
    (Aruba) (config) #exit
    (Aruba) #exit

    User:Admin

    Password:*********

    (Aruba) #

    (Aruba) #

    OK...

    So everything works..

I logon .. I reset the admin password..

I logoff and relog with my new password..

    Smiles..

So then, I reboot the device..

I get to the logon prompt..

I logon in with the with same user/ password combo..

    and Frown.

    I cant login..

    So

I redo the entire step pattern again..

    USER. Password... PASSWORD. forgetme! ....etc

    Reset the Admin password again..

    Test again.

    Reboot again.

    Frown again..

How do I keep a smile?

After you login, create another admin user with the role of root and type "write mem".  Login with that new admin user...

In the Central-managed mode, is there any equivalent command that works to add a user or change the password?

    User: password
    Password:
    (Aruba7005_xx_yy_zz) *#enable
                           ^
Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
    (Aruba7005_xx_yy_zz) *#configure t
This controller is managed by an ACP.
Configuration changes can only be performed on the ACP.
    (Aruba7005_xx_yy_zz) *#disaster-recovery on
Error:You do not have permission to execute this command
    (Aruba7005_xx_yy_zz) *#

Yes, configure the user and/or password from Central.

What do I do if the gateway lost ocnnection to Central, I don't have the password that was configured in Central,  but I need to reset the password to reconfigure it in disaster recovery mode, so it can gain access to Central again?

Maybe a hard factory reset of the device would work?  Ideally the settings from Central will properly configure the device again when it connects.
