    Hi All,

    Need support for below design.

Customer is planning to deploy 1000 APs to 30 sites using VMCs. I have selected 1xMM-1K and 1xMM-50 to support 1000 APs and 30 VMCs. For VMC i have selected VMC-1K because i can spawn as many instances i want as long as they support 1000 APs. For Airwave, how many licenses do i need?

Just 1 (or 2) for MM? or do i need for VMC also? if yes for VMC, do i need to purchase 1 license for VMC-1K or 30 licenses to support each VMC on each site?

Your AirWave licenses would need to cover the total amount of devices. A device would be a MM, VMC, AP or switch.

You should always have redudancy at the MM level, obviously hardware and virtual have their pro's and cons.

Your MM licenses needs to covers all the MM, VMC and APs. The VMC licenses need to cover your AP count.

So, if you have 1K APs, you would have a 1K VMC license (don't forget AP & PEF etc if required).

    Dear Craig,

Thanks for the prompt response, yes i have already configured the
capacities. I was mainly asking about Airwave License. In my case, customer
wants to support 1000 APs from 30 sites using VMC, so they will be
installing VMCs on each site (i.e. 30). So i have selected MC-VA-1K (1 qty)
to cater 1000 APs. What about LIC-AW for VMCs in this case? do i just need
to purchase 1 LIC-AW for MC-VA-1K or 30 licenses since there will be 30 VMC
    instances?

You need a LIC-AW per device in AirWave. Whether this is a MM, VMC/MC, AP or Switch. Each one is a device and each one requires a license.

So calculate how many MM, VMC and APs you will have in total. This is your AirWave license count.

    Dear Craig,

Let me simplify the question as per below and help to advise how many
lic-aw i might need in both cases

    1) customer purchases MC-VA-1K and install single VMC appliance in DC.
    Number of LIC-AW needed? i think 1
    2) customer purchases MC-VA-1K and install 30 VMC appliances across the
country (all with support total of 1000 APs). Number of LIC-AW needed? 1 or
    30?

You need a LIC-AW per device in AirWave. Whether this is a MM, VMC/MC, AP or Switch. Each one is a device and each one requires a license.

    So to answer...

    1) Correct, since you only have a single device in this scenario (e.g 1x VMC = 1x LIC-AW).

    2) If you have 30x VMC + 1000 AP you will need 1030 LIC-AW to cover each of the devices in AirWave.
