    Hi Guys,

I found a interesting thing about CAP bridge mode with forward mode access.

When I set the forward mode into access, the AP still gives the clients' packets a 802.1q tag。

I think this is how the ap distinguish the packets, if not the AP would never know the packet is sent to the AP or the client.

    Am I wrong?

Many bridge mode deployments will have the AP and client traffic on different VLANs.

    I'm just curious.

I set the switchport mode into access, and set the vlan to the same vlan as the AP's.

I thought it would work, because the AP and the STA have the different MAC address, the AP should know how to distinguish the packet. But the fact is that all the packets from the STA AP always sets a 802.1q tag in the front and the 802.1q tag belongs to the AP's vlan.

The switch side will strip dot1Q header on an access port.

If the switch's port is set to access, then the switch will simply drop the packet with 802.1q tag.

Only trunk port will stip the 802.1q tag.

What kind of switch? Cisco switches will accept tagged traffic on an access port as long as it’s the same VLAN ID as the access VLAN.

Can’t test this right now. If it is urgent, please contact Aruba TAC.

I just want to understand the basic concept, and want to make sure what I did was right.
