Hi Could anybody point me To recommendations regarding "sticky client" issues within a campus environment utilising AP-125 The issues being encountered appear as classic sticky client - a Windows 7 PC moving between APs take approximately 20-30 seconds to return to an appropriate speed 54Mbps->6Mbps->30 seconds -> 54Mbps Have the latest drivers upon the PC and the roaming options have been set to Optimised Bandwidth and with Best Rate. Any recommendations or pointers would be gratefully received. Many thanks

You need the proper density for good to above average roaming.  

 

The negotiated speed represents the data rate that the client settles on based on signal strength and quality.  If there is congestion or interference, it will drop.  If the signal strength is too low, or the client is too far away and it cannot send traffic successfully at the highest rates, it will negotiate down.  It takes longer to negotiate up on the same access point.

 

With that being said, good coverage is necessary for any client to maintain good datarates, at a minimum.. One access point every 60 feet in an office environment with drywall is a good starting point.

Thank you for this, although the infrastructure is good and currently there are only a few users due to it being a new building. The most recent live maps indicate all is well in terms of interference. Hence the question pertaining to recommendations regarding the client in relation to inter-working with the AP-125s - I had been expecting something around 50ms handover, so surprised at the 20 seconds. - How many WLANs are you broadcasting from each AP?

- Does either WLAN share a subnet with wired users?

3 x SSID - Voice, Data, Guest - all are dedicated to WLAN users and converge with wired users upon L3 switch. Guest is a dedicated VLAN and only accessible outbound via FW.

Sorry should have said that each SSID is a separate subnet

How many users, peak on each WLAN?

 

Currently less than 10, but in a few weeks approx 75 but never more than 100

Are you using encryption on that network?  What type?

What wireless adapter is in your Windows 7 PC?

How many access points and what controller model?

What version of ArubaOS?

Do you have Drop Broadcasts and Multicast on all of your virtual APs?

 

Encryption is WPA2 Wireless adapter is Broadcom with latest drivers In the building there are 4XAP-125s as its really just an expansion to the main building. The APs are connected to a single controller although there are 3 controllers in total. The 4 APs are within the same member pool What is the significance of the Drop Broadcasts and Multicast on all APs? Thanks
