Capacity planning - burst ratio

Hi

When planning the capacity of a WLAN we take into account the number of expected concurrent clients and the bandwidth they need/want.

This would be easy to calculate if all clients would be active and using this bandwidth all the time. However this is not the case. Network traffic does tend to have a 'bursty' character and not every client is always actively using data. This 'burst ratio' has of course a big influence on the needed number and type of access points.

In this topic for example a 10:1 burst ratio is mentioned: Topic on concurrent users per access point.

What burst ratio do you guys use in capacity planning and in which cases?
