Connecting AP to Controller over L3/L3MPLS Network

Hello Dears,

When connecting an AP (AP-270 in our case), to a MC 7200 Controller, over L3 or L3VPN (MPLS) network, in case the AP's are not configured as RAP, assuming both AP's Subnets & Controller Subnet is reachable, then:

Do we have to pre-configure any GRE Tunnel ID on either AP or Controller, or this will be done automatically between Aruba AP & MC 7200?

No nothing has to be preconfigured. Just be sure you have the AP discovery method setup on the network (DNS or DHCP options)

There is no DNS used for AP's to discover the Controller, and the remote site router will only provide IP, Subnet & Default Gateway to the connected AP's.

Additionally, from AP side, we'll manually enter the remote controller IP.

Will this setup work?

In that case, it would be best if you provisioned the AP with a static entry for the controller IP manually before sending on site. otherwise, you can modify the AP environment variables from AP boot to specific the masterip and server to point at the controller IP. Again, from the network the 270 is plugged in to, it must be able to reach the controller IP you provision, and if it cannot the AP will not come up.
