I am trying to determine if there are any advantages of using Controller based vs IAP(managed by Airwave) other than GRE Tunnel for Guest & central point management for APs?

Does Controller managed AP has any advantage on Wifi performance over IAP?

    AP Model:300 series

Number of total APs: ~400 (small clusters in remote office bldgs)

There is no performance advantage for controllers vs. IAPs.  The main guiding principle for controllers vs. IAPs is Centralized LAN (Controllers) vs. Distributed Enterprize (Instant).

EDIT:  There are some features like GRE tunneling that only exist on the controller-based platform of course.
