    Hi,

We have been asked to propose a proper wireless solution based on the attached picture.

The customer wants to cover the parking area from a distaned location (control room).

Since it is a construction site with heavy trucks driving around; it is not possible deploy access points at the parking area itself (no cabling or power so no meshing) so we need to use access points on top of the control room to cover the parking area. (does not need to be 100% coverage 80% is enough)

Note this is an open area with clear line of sight.

What is the proper AP antenna compination we can use?

Note that heavy network traffic is not expected to be much.

    Thanks!

If P2P mesh is not an option then 450m of coverage is a tough ask.

This may be of help to determine the AP and the antennas you would like to use. They come with integrated omnidirectional antennas.

A high gain directional/omnidirectional antenna would work with the distance (450m) mentioned.

These could help you to choose your AP based on your budget.

    Thank you for your reply.

Could you please be more specific?

Do i need to use external directional/omnidirectional antenna to make this work or can i stick with internal ones?

In case of directional antenna's from my understanding that mainly it is used to direct signal to specific locations (Like long corridors or hall ways) is it possible to change the signal parameters for it to cover the parking area shown?

    Thanks!

What kind of coverage does the site need more specifically, is it vertical coverage or horizontal coverage? Should this deployment be considered as a (hypothetically analogous) high ceiling deployment given your constraints of mounting the AP on the control room?

I am trying to gain a better understanding of the site.

it can be considered as horizontal coverage i think given the distance.

The control room is basically an outdoor cabin and i am thinking of mounting the AP on top of it using a pole to increase the AP hight.

I am new to wireless in general so execuse my basic understanding.

Taking the limitations into account this would be a way to go.

A high gain Omnidirectional antenna would be your best bet as this provides more coverage in the horizontal direction as compared to the vertical.

If the signal is to be focussed downwards towards the dig site from the control room, then a high gain directional antenna would be your choice.

I would suggest contact your sales rep and have a test run with the internal antennas and without them.

i think the information i needed is that omnidirectional antennas cover in the horizontal direction better than directional in this situation.

Surely, testing internal and external antenna's would be the best choice but i would bet on the more aggressive choice (external antenna's) just to be on the safe side.

Pay attention to the gain of the antennas as they determine the coverage. In our scenario have the rep perform proper calculations for coverage reliability before the deployment.
