IAP-105 won't connect to virtual controller

    Posted Dec 12, 2014 10:48 AM

I have a new IAP-105 AP and am currently running a virtual Instant AP on another 105. I currently have 46 AP's on the network. I plugged in the new IAP-105 into a POE port for a current working IAP to be sure that all the switch ports were setup properly. I get solid green power, flashing enet, and solid orange A/N and B/G/N lights. The AP does not show up listed in my controller interface. I consoled into the AP and did a factory reset to see what would happen. It is getting the correct IP address and gateway for the VLAN it's on. I just can't figure out why it doesn't find the controller or Vise Versa.

I'm not sure that it matters.  I can ping the device from my workstation.  How can I verify that this really is an Instant 105 and not just a regular 105.  It has the same IAP-105 on the bottom that all my other devices have.  I hav enot tried to console into another device during boot up to compare the boot process, but here it is for the one that won't connect if that gives anyone some information.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

The fact taht you see the above where it did the master election shows you that this is an IAP vs a campus AP. I do see that it was looking for an airwave server from DHCP option 43, but that shouldn't have affected it joining the cluster.

Thanks for the reply.  At least I know I'm working with the right equipment.

Maybe I'll try plugging it directly into the same switch as the instant AP and see if that helps.  I couldn't find any options in the software to turn off discovery of new AP's, so I'm assuming that's not an option.

I did not purchase any support licensing for this unit.  I don't see any sort of licening listed in the virtual controller that will only allow me to connect so many AP's.  I originally purchased this as a spare in case one went down and it's been sitting in a box for a year.  Thus, I didn't purchase a license for it.  Could that be the problem?
