Licence exceeded- WLC 7205

Hello Team,

We have situation, currently using WLC 7205 act/standby  with 131 AP license. There is an additional requirement  to add 150 more APs on current infra. Since WLC7205 supports only 256 APs, how can I achieve this without replacing the existing 7205 act/stand setup. Adding one more controller to the infra would solve ?

Kindly advise--

thanks in advance...

Do you currently have a single 7205, or two (active/standby)?

Your deployment does not contain a Mobility Master for managing the 7205s, or does it?

Re: Licence exceeded- WLC 7205

If you convert to the old master-local setup you can terminate AP's on both.

If you install a Mobility master, the 2 MC's will form a active active cluster so you can terminate AP's on both.

in both scenario's you can terminate 2x256 (you will loose redunancy)

other way is to add 3th local controller to extend the number of AP''s supported, this can be done via clustering under a MM setup, or add a local controller under your master/master-backup setup.

since you are investing in controller hardware i would advise to buy an additional MM so you can make use of all the good MM features including clustering.

Re: Licence exceeded- WLC 7205

As Fabian mentioned, depending on your firmware version, you can change the standby controller to be a local controller which would then be capable of terminating additional APs.

Next steps beyond that would involve adding additional equipment, again depending on firmware version. What version of AOS are you currently running?
