I'm currently testing Aruba 8  with one VMM and one VMC . 

After installing an eval License (MC-VA-RW) on the MM (as I thought it would "transfer" licence to the MC) it seem that managed device is not allowed to use this license.

"#show license usage-client" command return no use by any devices and "#show license server-table" command confirm that licenses are installed and enabled.

I first tried to create a specific pool on the /md branch, but the VMC didn't get any license.

I also try to move license from MM to MC but it seem it cannot be done with eval license.

Should I ask new license and installe it on VMC instead of VMM or is there an other way ?

To confirm you  need to install the VMC licenses at the /mm level. If you run 'show license debug' on the VMC, does it show the License Server IP as your MM? If you are on 8.0 also consider upgrading to a later release, there is been many fixes since this initial version.

The command show license usage-client gives information on the clients associated.

Since its a MM-MD test setup the command "show licence-usage AP" sheds more light on MM and MC-VA licenses in the output.

Also what is the flag status of the licenses ? Is it 'E' or 'ER'. If it is the latter then a reboot is required.

This can be checked using the command "show license".

I'm currently working on ArubaOS (MODEL: ArubaMC-VA), Version 8.1.0.0.

License server is configured as the MM :

show license debug

Summary of licensing state

Centralized Licensing: Enabled

License are only flagged with E, no reboot needed.

I just read from License Types and Usages that since Aruba 8.1, MM (MM-VA) License are needed to terminate controlers and AP.

Can you confirm that I need in addition a MM-VA license in order to manage MD and terminate AP on them ?

You need an AP license to terminate an AP. You currently have 0 AP-LIC hence why the AP is showing as unlicensed.

You also need a MM license for your Mobility Master as well, this is showing as 0.

Here is a sample BOM for a Virtual MM, Virtual MC and AP, PEF and AirWave

You might wanna add a PEFNG and RFprotect license as well and enable the feature bits(they are disabled from the output) if you plan on adding custom rules for your users.
