Mix AP-134/5 and AP-224/5 in Same Location?

    With the pending EOS of the AP-134/5 (http://www.arubanetworks.com/support-services/end-of-life/) I'm in a position that may require me to mix AP-134s and AP-224s in the same location.

     

    Previously we were warned not to mix AP-134s and AP-224s.  We were told to keep an entire floor of a building AP-134s and a different floor could then be AP-224s for instance.

     

    Recent I've heard that as a result of improvements in ClientMatch that we can now mix AP-134s and AP-224s.

     

    Single master 7240 with multiple local 7240s running AOS v6.4.2.7.

     

    Can / should these AP types be mixed?

    They can be mixed, but you should disable VHT on the 22x series until all of the APs in the RF area have been replaced.

    They can be mixed, but you could wind up with different behavior if a client acts differently when it is associated to a 802.11ac vs an 802.11n access point.  The recommendation is to avoid that possible issue.

    Clients could act differently.  Disabling VHT in the ARM profile like TC mentions should mitigate the majority of your  issues.  

     

    The AP225 has better receive sensitivity than the AP135, so when you run commands like "show ap association" it could see clients better when a client is associated to an AP225 than an AP135.

     

    If you run a pilot to ensure everything is okay, you would be fine.

    we have a large campus deployment (2500 APs total), 75% of them are 134 APs, and we have 130's, 220's, 340's in our deployment. they are interspersed throughout the campus.

    please tell me that we should not disable VHT because we have 134's in our network

    please tell me that these AP's can intermingle, and our network will be fine.

    let me know any special settings that are best practice recommendations for this type of deployment, because to be honest, replacing 1800 ap's is not cost effective. it will be done over time, but atm, we have this deployment and need to make sure we can make it work properly.
